art explosion,

sweater, H&M trend, jeans, topshop - loafers, zara - bag, vintage

ive been in heaven!! literally. the one thing i always missed in holland was buzz. art, music, fashion buzz. but there has been so much going on this past month!

there was fashions night out, artifest, stedelijk museum opening, and of course UNSEEN. i got so excited that i volunteered to work there for free [crazy i know].

the fair had everything any artie fartie person would want to see; lectures, screenings and photography displays of some of the best galleries in the world.

while wandering through the photography maze, in revere of all the talent i couldn't help but wonder why pictures of other people appeal to us. what is it that intrigues us about seeing a picture of someone else doing something, whether it be ordinary or extraordinary

for me personally, its a combination of feeling part of something bigger, belonging to something as well as wanting to believe in the fantasy of photographs.  although i loved UNSEEN my preference goes out to museum exhibitions because the art on display usually has some thread of underlying message to absorb

FNO,

necklace, vintage - t-shirt, zara - jeans, acne

two firsts this year; 1. vogue started a dutch edition, 2. the dutch vogue team participated in fashion's night out!

i accidentally [sort of] attended FNO in london last year when i happened to go to liberty's one afternoon and manolo blanhik was there. afterwards all the events dawned on me and i realized it was FNO. anyway, i must admit vogue isn't really my favorite literature but i'm still always up for a party especially when its in the cosy streets of amsterdam!

and truthfully, i had too much fun at the fillipa k store [free campagne] that i lost the focus to take pictures of the night...

beachin bummin,

cropped top, zoe tee's - shorts, levi's - hat, montecristi - shoes, anniel - bag, vintage

hollanda had some nice weather!! [with emphasis on had] i seized the beautiful day and went to the beach with my family to soak up the last rays of sun before the darkness of winter

the weather is back to fall mode now for which i dont even know how to dress anymore. this is bad because its THE first vogue's fashion night out in amsterdam tomorrow!

aside from the fact that i dont know what to wear, im super stocked for the screening of diana vreeland's docu, meeting victor & rolf, testing chanel nail-polish, all the while sipping champagne.

above all im excited to hang out with jamie snoeck [awesome fashion photographer] whom i havent seen since may to discuss possible collaboration with THE ROOM!

-now back to figuring out what to wear-

another side of town,

natasha: top, topshop - shorts, vintage levi's - sandals, prada - bag, vintage
me: dress, zara - hat, montecristi - shoes, zara - bag, lv

so here i am prancing about in downtown beirut with my sister on my last day in the city. its interesting, because you either love or hate this part of town. certain people love it because it has every chique boutique in a one mile radius from celine to mccartney and others hate it because it seems fake and out of touch with reality.

whenever i walk around downtown i imagine what it used to be like before the war, full of hustle and bustle. it saddens me but it also gives me hope!

i guess i neither love nor hate it [boring opinion i know].

shorties,

so... here you have it! all my vintage levi's shorties.
these four shorties are what my whole summer wardrobe is based on, well mostly anyway. it got me thinking... how did it happen that suddenly these shorties, that were so fashionable in the 80s [i think] are so popular again?

well, if i were to answer this question it would be simple. I LOVE EVERYTHING OLD. i love everything 'vintage' is probably a better way of putting it. i feel vintage pieces have a story, some life in them as opposed to clothes from chain stores. not only that, it reminds me of my mom's style when she was in her 20s and how much i wanted to grow up and be like her when i got to be in my 20s.

can i tell you a little secret though? i bought most of these from urban outfitters and topshop so how much can i really say anyway?!

day to night,

outfit 1: romper,  one teaspoon - shoes, zara - hat, montecristi - bag, balenciaga
outfit 2: clutch, vintage - shoes, georgina goodman

i still remember the day that this romper was delivered to my house and i was trying them on infront of the mirror in the living room and my mom [who never curses] literarily said, WTF are you wearing?? 'it's called a romper mom' I replied in my annoyed teenage voice while i desperately tried to mute her out while she was yelling 'its see through', 'half your ass is showing' etc.

anyway, three months later i wore it out to diner and she LOVEEED it.

to love or not to love,

there are those lebanese who love their country and those who dont

i am one of those who loves lebanon owing to literally everything, even the smell of car fumes when you open your windows in the city, because it smells like home. i'm oblivious to so many of its flaws because i experience so many amazing things every time i visit. i feel that many people are driven in such a creative way which really inspires me. its something that is missing in london, where everything is so big and needs to be so commercial for it to be considered a success

my sister pointed out to me that many of these exciting projects are possible here because there are so little restrictions. another person said that living there in general can be such a pain in the ass and yet another person told me that the country is doomed anyway so there is no future.

i love that i'm oblivious to all the imperfections of lebanon, it is probably the only way to really enjoy everything it does have!

anyway, i got a little side tracked with my thoughts there. i really just wanted to show you two amazing stores i visited! orient 499 and maison de l'artisan beirut. it is quite pricey and i've heard by word of mouth there is a 'market' called basta where you can find these kinds of things cheaper. but still, great for ideas and eye candy of course.

OH and! i just started a facebook page. i'm a little nervous to go so public... but oh well here it goes.
